What is the temperament of a Powder Puff dog and are they hypoallergenic?

Do you mean a Chinese Crested?

No dog is hypoallergenic. Some dogs tend to have less reactions to them, but none are hypoallergenic. If you are allergic to dogs (or someone in your family is), then it's best not to get any dog. Remember, it's the saliva and dander, not the fur, so getting a Powder Puff Chinese Crested does not solve the problem.

Chinese Cresteds are high-strung dogs that need lots of attention. They have to be 100% indoor dogs and really shouldn't be left alone for more than 4 or so hours on a regular basis due to their tendency to have Separation Anxiety. Of course, each individual dog is different.

If you are considering this breed, it's time to read some official websites and ask some responsible breeders or owners about the dog. This is not a breed specific website, so the answers you get will not be that great (for the most part).

Places to start:

Breed rescue. Breed rescues can tell you why the dogs tend to be given up and may even be able to help you find a dog. http://www.crest-care.com/

****If you are not talking about Chinese Cresteds, much of the information for ANY toy dog remains the same. Visit http://www.akc.org , click on ';breeds';, find your breed, and then on the left click on ';National Breed Club'; and ';Breed Rescue';. If there's a ';Breed Flyer'; you'll want to read that as well. Be sure to also read the good breeder links I've lsted above.

Good luck to you in your search. : )What is the temperament of a Powder Puff dog and are they hypoallergenic?
Awesome answer ';Stalkers';. Thank you for the research that you put into it :)

What is the temperament of a Powder Puff dog and are they hypoallergenic?
yes, most powder puffs are hypoallergenic. i played it safe and got a hairless. i love him to death !
They are properly called Chinese Crested dogs but they can also be called powderpuffs if they are born with a normal layer of hair (re.gular crested dogs have a fringe of hair over the head, feet, and ears while the rest of the body is hairless)

They are generally calm but no dogs i don't think are hypoallergenic.
My dog is a Bichon Frise X. Most people with allergies choose them or poodles. They have a lovely temperament but are quite independent.
I assume you are referring to the Bichon Frise. They are like babies, affectionate and so want to please. Their dander is such that allergies are minimal. They don't shed either.
';powder puff dog'; is to general a term.

are you asking about a pomeranian, poodle, bichon? What?
If you are talking about a Bichon, they are hypoallergenic and pretty much very loyal dogs, easy going.
In every litter of Chinese Crested puppies, there is at least one puppy that has a full coat. These are called Powder Puffs. A breeder/handler at a dog show told me that this hairy puppy helps to keep it's naked litter mates warm. Both the naked and the Powder Puff are considered cheerful and friendly.

No dog is truly hypoallergenic but the naked Chinese Crested is more hypoallergenic then it's Powder Puff litter mates for obvious reasons.
